Now I'm fairly new to the server, 2 weeks in, and you guys are more than happy, staff included to talk about anything you want.
Problem I have is there's quite a lot of young people talking about politics without having enough experience in life, but they talk things they think are fine, because if an admin can do it, why can't they?
I, coming up to 20 years old, and experienced with many people both through friendship and work, still consider myself quite young to life.
Whilst a lot of people are from America, and are used to basically saying whatever they like, it isn't always pleasant for us folks from other countries. Talking politics isn't a positive subject, no matter what you're talking about. I play Minecraft to get away from that.
All I'm asking for is to discuss if talking politics shouldn't be allowed in the main chat, as it causes conflicted that doesn't benefit anyone.
I'm asking Luigi, to consider, at least after a few days of people discussing it in this chat to maybe add politics to the rule book.
We're all allowed our own views, and I'm 100% for that, but it isn't right for a game designed for children, they shouldn't be exposed to something so negative so early on in life.

Thanks,

-Lazark

-1 for that rule.

And heres why. I am an american, true, and I despise talking about politics as much as the next guy. Most of the time when such conversations come up I stay out of them. But this game is not necessarily designed solely for children, other wise I doubt you and I and older player would be playing. Ive met people who are in their 30's near 40's, who enjoy minecraft, and play it often. Grant you, they tend to stick to singleplayer, but the fact still stands. And most of the players here ARENT children. Is there the occasional 9,10,11,12 year old? Of course. But the vast majority Id say were between 13 and 17 or 18. And even if they are here listening, Politics ISNT always a bad thing like you said. It brings attention to the reality of the world, and its good to hear and take into account the opinions of others. And besides, theyll be exposed to it in school and other places, and that happened in all countries, not just the US. Saying its only Americans arguing politics in chat is simply ridiculous. And so would a rule like that.

You named this topic "free speech" and when I saw it i figured it meant you were complaining about someone RESTRAINING free speech and wanted it fixed. But this rule is a restriction of speech, and us AMERICANS dont operate that way, and as far as Im aware so do most of the other countries who have players here. A rule like what you say is out of the question in my opinions, and would cause probably the largest outcry of rage this server has seen in quite some time.

Total respect to your opinion, but if a rule like that were to be implemented, I would probably leave this server without a second thought.

Two things, I have to say.
Originally the game wasn't designed for anyone, but with Microsoft taking over, and they know how good a parents credit card is willing to bend, they've catered the game towards young people, I personally didn't have my own computer till I was 12, but there's kids playing this game at 5/6 which is crazy.
Other countries don't have 100% free speech, you're not allowed to hate on other people purely because of their race/religion etc, but in America you can if you want to.

I see where you're coming from though, but this isn't an easy choice to make, which is why is should be discussed, and if necessary, voted on too.

If not a rule to restrict players, more a rule to respect if someone doesn't want to see someone talk about politics. I think that would be much better, seeing as you wouldn't like a rule to restrict your words.

+1.

I really don't care about the politics to be honest. But I've had to deal with politics being a hate issue on the server multiple times and it is never civil. If you saw it be civil, cool. But every time I have been online someone brings it up, and gets all smug because they have an opinion that they KNOW will piss others off. One time the discussion went from talking about Trump, to talking about how Hitler was doing a good thing. It's less that I don't want people to talk about politics, but I don't want the shitstorm that it brings onto the server.

I have to -1.

For what Loki said, and because in the "Chat settings" there is an option to turn chat off. So if people start talking politics, just turn it off until they are done.

The point I'm trying to say is we should be more respectful to other people.
Also if you turn chat off, typing commands is next to impossible, and you won't know when they're finished.

Talking about politics and being respectful to each other are things that don't seem to go together for most people, especially since last year. It's sad.

Just saying as this is suggesting to add a new rule, it wouldve been better if you put this in the suggestions tab.

But with the discussion of political things, i normally allow it as its free speech, but as soon as i see shit being tossed at one another is when i step in.

Like Loki said, humans (because saying americans is generalising the player base) dont work like that. Restricting free speech is in violation of our most basic human rights. I would +1 the rule for the reasons of stopping arguments, but i have to Abstain.

Yours Sincerely

Actually Microsoft have not "taken over" Minecraft - they just own the rights to Mojang Ltd.

Anyway, while I dislike politics as well, they really aren't 'negative'. If politics, real life principles developed over hundreds of years are negative, then maybe Minecraft does deserve the Turkish 15 rating.

Also, people young enough that politics are "bad for them" probably shouldn't have chat on anyway, or be on multiplayer, in fact. "Online aspects" instantly gives a game a rating of 7, and considering here in England most youths first learn about politics in Year 1 (6-7 year olds) they should really only be on singleplayer.
