Hey all,
I've been playing on Webbcraft for a while and I realized something that our chat system would benefit from: chat channels. The reason I think this is because recently, I've been finding that global can get a little spammy sometimes, or I just don't want to have my chat constantly showing due to messages. Also, since our current chat is used for pretty much everything, it's somewhat hard to distinguish which messages are which. With chat channels, color/font style differences would be useful for differentiating which is which.
I suggest that the server could implement a chat channel plugin (VentureChat https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/venturechat.771/ is apparently a good one to use).
I'll list the benefits that would come out of using this plugin:
- Different channels for different purposes
- /ch g for a whole server global chat (normal color)
- /ch l for a local chat for people within a 100 or so block radius (different color from global)
- /ch ad for advertising stuff (grey, because advertisements are meant to be slightly ignored unless you're actively looking for something xD)
- /ch rank or /ch donor for ranked/donors only (a nice color for the donators)
- /ch list for the list of chats
- Ability to leave/join channels that you don't want to see (if global is being too spammy, you could leave that, or if you're just trying to focus on chatting with someone in your town in the vicinity, /ch l would be useful)
- /ch staff for staff only (if they need to discuss stuff in private)
- /ch broadcast which all players would not be able to leave from but would not be able to speak in it either. On this channel, only staff would have access to its usage and it would be a good alternative to /broadcast, which some ranked players have access to.
A few more chat-related suggestions:
- The ability to type '/msg playername' but without typing a message, and this way, it would put you in a private chat with that person, without having to type /r before every message (/r would work the same way in that typing the command would put you in a private chat channel with the last person you were messaging)
- Ability to use a command like /ignore playername to stop showing that players chats to you (if they're being spammy, annoying, etc.)
Please give feedback on whether you think this is a good idea or not. |

I don't think this much is necessary, it'd be good on a large scale server with hundreds of players, but we only have a few dozen on at a time. We already have: Public chat, Faction chat, Ally chat, Staff chat and private messaging, adding more onto that list would only make it a bigger hassle for players having to switch between chats constantly.
I'm gonna have to -1 this one. |
