Hey all, I think it's time to discuss what would be beneficial for a new server spawn, because unless we remain where we are right now, we will either be getting a new one with or without a reset. I have some ideas that I believe will make it awesome and a place where the community really feels at home:

Downtown Square: People have been complaining about /warp shop for ages (including me), its disrepair and its uselessness, but I have only seen a couple people actually suggest a real fix to the issue. I know we have /buy and /warp but it is still pretty annoying to shop around on the server. Here’s the solution I have for all of you. Most plots at the center of spawn? They would be strictly required to be player run stores. This would allow people to very quickly browse item prices and store inventories without needing to inconveniently warp which also probably lags from loading new chunks. This downtown section would surround the new…

Courthouse Spawn Building: More helpful rules and player guides using signs, maps, warp signs, and lecterns! Having an area that's community focused and helpful for new players at the center of our server would really set the tone for how we want the spawn to operate. Specific spawn rules could be put on record so disputes seem less arbitrary in the eyes of players. The Courthouse could also perhaps contain staff offices and information copies of all of the new…

Deeds!: When spawn is released, players seeking to acquire a plot (via lottery system) receive a Deed to a specific plot. This lottery assignment allows even latecomers to get good plots of land even if they can’t log in within a half hour. Players can only get one deed from the lottery but may sell or trade deeds freely afterwards and may acquire several plots over the course of the spawn. Deeds contain specific information about a plot including coordinates of the corners, how many chunks, build height, any specific utilities that must not be obstructed, and…

Turnover: Players should not be able to plant their name on their plot and leave it forever unfinished, that’s not only unfair to the people around it who have to live with an eyesore but it's also unfair to someone who could have done something more inspired or valuable to the community. As such plot turnover should be much more strict of a system. Players who have a plot in the downtown commercial area should have a much more limited timeframe to set up (ex: 10 days before their deed is revoked or 3 weeks without stocking items) while those at the edge of town would likely have the more comfortable two months. Towards the center of spawn staff should actively be watching to make unused plots available as soon as possible.

Denser streets: the current town is laid out in a way that is very much segmented into disconnected player owned sections through safezoned road chunks. While this seems like a good idea to prevent players from blocking public roads it also leads to limited player interaction and cooperation in an area where there specifically should be more rather than less. (in my concepts i've also done fun things like put soul soil below roads to allow players with soul speed boots to move faster)

Community builds/services: These would be buildings somewhat between the commercial area and the edge of spawn. Ideally the server comes together to collaborate on them and we get multiple awesome builders to each put in something awesome. I think a library at spawn would be awesome especially with some of the new lecturns and chiseled bookshelves which were added after Gilg made his library. Some other things that I've considered include a museum, public parks, a train station, a post office, even redstone which changes with day night cycles so you could hook up lights that turn on at night.

Roads that Travel away from Spawn: Spawn might be the life of the server but it doesn't have to be the only way that players interact. Factions and players just starting out often have no idea where they should set up. By giving people roads to nowhere you're opening up places for people to set up where they can put distance between each other while still feeling connected. To make this work better we can even have...

Limited Land in Spawn: By limiting the land around our spawn (safezoning land directly after the edge) it encourages players to take the challenge of going out into the wilderness and building a community of their own, which is kind of the main thesis behind any factions server. Not only would this keep spawn dynamic while less active players gravitate outwards, it might encourage some players to stay longer due to the pull that would come from "making it."

I've probably put way too many hours of thought into all of this but I want the server to live on, and I think that a better more dynamic community at spawn is a great first step as it's the first part of the server that new players see.

I sure hope that this all has been of use to the staff team and they can glean some of my better ideas or at least take inspiration for some of their own. I hope you all have enjoyed reading all of this as much as I've enjoyed thinking about it all.

Thanks for bearing with me, feel free to discuss or suggest your own ideas below! :D

I honestly think a railroad system with train stations & boardwalk would also be great additions. The railroad could increase in size as player build activity expands throughout the map. Creating an inefficient, but fun way in which communities can connect/travel to one another, without the use of teleportation/warping.

The boardwalk, on the other hand, would be stationary and only exist within the spawn town.
Also, we cant see the images, Grove.

I think overall this is a pretty good idea, but if I had to nitpick one thing it would be the railway.

Teleportation is always going to be faster and used before minecart transport. So in total, it would just be a large waste of time and materials. However I think that its a good idea, maybe each station could get its own warp and maybe warps to other stations on its 'route'?

That would allow for the same sort of interconnected feeling, but maybe with it having a bit more use.
