Here I am all proud of my 2 inch ammonite, then Gilgamesh8 walks in with his 3 foot ammonite. I like how you drew a face on the end of it XD |

I have an ammonite, a large raw amethyst, a polished labradorite, and a large diamond. I also have a bag full of magnetite, but I literally got it from my driveway. |

@Luigi: Right now I'm technically just a quarry worker, but maybe one day I'll become a little more prestigious and use my geology degree. That's the goal anyhow.@Aouldrain: Haha, you thinking time travel or adoption? @Presinus: Staggers in is more like, that sucker is heavy! I've always wanted to collect labradorite, but I don't know where you find it. @Helio: Yeah, my focus would be paleontology, but I'm with ya. Good luck! If anybody else has anything cool, I'd love to see it. Wish I could collect some of those Lyme Regis ammonites, or the opal dinosaurs in Australia. |

Uh, believe it or not, labradorite is found in Labrador, Canada.Honestly though, I love how they change from blue to yellow when I turn them. |

Update: My diamond was a total scam. Turns out it's just hard quartz from some place in New York that bought the rights to marketing quartz as diamond. Quartz is cool and all, but I've already flexed it on everyone I know.I came back with fossils and labradorescent stones as a priority, and I got exactly that. I saw a pyritized ammonite for the first time, and though it was $160, I regret not buying it. Most beautiful fossil I've ever seen. Luckily, the trade show had just shown up the day before, so a lot of higher value items were still available. Here's what I got: ![]() ![]() |

Ahh yes, the ol' Herkimer diamond flim-flam! You aren't the first. Those look pretty dang cool. Is that amber, and if so, does it have any little guys in it? |

Ah no, there's no creatures inside the amber that the eye can see. Some really neat photos once again. I do wonder about some. Glyphs: Were the glyphs created by today's natives, or some now extinct race of people? Bird: I was baffled to see you found such a well-defined bird fossil. Did you get to take it, or does the "no vertebrates" rule still apply there? Leaves: *Chocolate is the food item. The tree is called theobroma cacao.* |

@presThe petroglyphs are Fremont and Ute. Many people think the Fremont eventually became at leas ta part of the Ute tribes but its uncertain. There aren't Fremonts as such anymore, but the Utes are still nearby. No bird fossils allowed sadly ;-; It's still out there. Also, I looked more closely at the "beak" and realized its actually the torso, with the pointy breastbone. I couldn't figure out how to edit the imgur tho so... my hasty mistake persists. Righto, I didn't look up the name. I think it was Sterculia coloradensi, which it turns out isn't all that chocolaty, if you will. They both are members of the mallow family Malvaceae. Live and learn :P |
